Feeding The Problem

Through the Cracks
Artist Statement by Jordan Miller

I’ve observed detrimental reflections of poor choices. Poverty is an abusive cycle of poorly educated, malnourished, unhealthy and unstable people. I’ve witnessed people’s low self worth and self esteem.

People beg—money is given—we are feeding the problem. Drugs, solvents, alcohol or alcohol based products are used to distract from unfortunate realities. To avoid problems physical assistance should be offered.

Child Poverty forces youth into the street. Due to lacking education they prostitute themselves, end up with sexually transmitted diseases, pregnant, or unwanted children. The government then hires workers, such as me, for children with neurological disorders and Drug/Fetal Alcohol Syndromes.

Drug/alcohol programs, shelters, food banks, support centres, teen help lines, and social assistance are also services offered by the government. Not everyone desires or seeks help. With a deficit and other expenses the government cannot solve all problems.

Alternative support, prevention, and education may not completely help but awareness may improve a life. I am an advocate who provides food to homeless, supports children in need, and educates children to make better choices.
